Pressure Washing Falkirk

If your driveway, patio, or path has gone from stone-coloured to a dull shade of green-grey, you're not alone. It happens to every hard surface in this part of Scotland eventually. Between the rain, the damp air off the Forth, and the shade from all those mature gardens, algae and grime build up fast, and once it takes hold, a garden hose and a stiff brush won't shift it.

That's where pressure washing comes in. Steam King has been pressure washing driveways, patios, paths, and walls across Falkirk and Denny for over 15 years, and it's still the job we get the most calls about. Whether you've heard it called pressure washing, power washing, jet washing, or exterior pressure cleaning, it's the same process: high-pressure water, the right technique for the surface in front of us, and a result that actually lasts.

The job we get the most calls about

What Pressure WashingActually Involves

Pressure washing uses a powerful jet of water, sometimes on its own, sometimes with a specialist cleaning solution first, to strip away dirt, algae, moss, lichen, and general grime from hard outdoor surfaces. It's not just a case of turning the dial up and blasting away. Too much pressure in the wrong spot can etch soft stone, blow sand out of block paving joints, or strip the surface off tarmac. Too little, and you're just moving the dirt around.

We calibrate the pressure and the nozzle to whatever we're standing on. A sandstone wall gets treated very differently to a concrete slab path. That's really the whole skill of the job: knowing what a surface can take, and getting the result without damaging what you're trying to clean.

Surfaces

SurfacesWe Cover

Steam King pressure washes pretty much every hard surface you'll find around a home or business in the Falkirk area, including:

Driveways

of all types, whether that's block paving, tarmac, resin, or concrete. This is genuinely our speciality and where most of our work comes from. If your drive is the main job, our driveway cleaning page covers the full process in more detail.

Patios and pathways

, including slabs, natural stone, and concrete paving. Years of moss and algae build-up between the joints is one of the most common jobs we do, and the difference once it's gone is always dramatic. See our patio cleaning page for more on that.

Pavements and courtyards

, both for homeowners wanting a tidy approach to the house and for businesses that need a presentable entrance.

Block paving

specifically, which needs a slightly different approach because of the jointing sand between the blocks. Blast it wrong and you lose the sand, the blocks loosen, and weeds get straight back in. We clean block paving properly and can re-sand and treat it afterwards, covered on our block paving restoration page.

Concrete and slabs

, which tend to hold algae in the surface texture more stubbornly than smoother materials. A proper clean here often needs a bit more dwell time with our cleaning products before the pressure washer comes out.

Tarmac and asphalt

, common on driveways and larger commercial areas, which we clean carefully to lift oil staining and general grime without damaging the surface.

Stone and brick

, whether that's a garden wall, a boundary wall, or stonework on the front of the house. Natural stone and older brick need lower pressure and more patience than modern paving, so we treat them accordingly. If it's a wall specifically, our wall cleaning page goes into more detail on how we handle vertical surfaces.

If you're not sure which category your job falls into, don't worry about it. Just give us a call, describe what you're looking at, and we'll tell you honestly what's involved.

Central Scotland

Why Falkirk Properties Need ItMore Than You'd Think

Central Scotland doesn't get the driest of climates, and that's the main reason pressure washing is such a regular job here. Damp, shaded, north-facing surfaces in particular collect green algae and black lichen within a year or two of being cleaned, sometimes faster. Add in moss creeping in from nearby grass or gravel, general road dirt from driveways near busier streets, and the odd oil or tyre mark, and most hard surfaces need a proper clean every couple of years to stay looking right and, more importantly, to stay safe underfoot. A green, algae-covered path or step gets slippery fast, and that's before you even get to how much better a property looks with it gone.

The method

How We ApproachEvery Job

  1. Every pressure washing job starts the same way, with an honest look at what we're dealing with and a straight answer on price before anything happens. No inflated quote that mysteriously grows once the van's on the drive.
  2. Once we're on site, we protect what needs protecting; nearby plants, garden furniture, pet areas, anything sensitive, gets covered or moved out of the way first. We then work through the surface systematically, using the pressure and technique appropriate to the material, and, where it helps, an eco-friendly cleaning product to lift ground-in algae and staining before the water pressure finishes the job. We use eco-friendly products wherever we possibly can, because it's better for your garden, your pets, and the drains it eventually runs into.
  3. Once the surface is clean, we'll talk you through what we've found. If there are joints losing sand, cracks that need attention, or a weed problem that's going to come straight back without treatment, we'll tell you rather than just packing up and leaving. Many customers choose to add a commercial-grade weed treatment at this point, which noticeably slows down regrowth compared to a clean on its own.
  4. We leave the property clean and tidy, and we don't take payment until you've had a proper look and you're happy with the result.

Homes and businesses

Residential and CommercialPressure Washing

Most of our pressure washing work is residential, driveways, patios, and paths for homes across Falkirk, Denny, Larbert, and the surrounding villages. But we also carry out commercial pressure washing for businesses that need their premises looking presentable, from shop fronts and car parks to larger yard and forecourt areas.

The core process is the same either way, but the scheduling, access, and scale are usually quite different, which is why we've written these up separately. Have a look at our residential pressure washing page or our commercial and industrial exterior cleaning page depending on which applies to you.

What It Costs

Pressure washing prices depend on the size of the area, how dirty the surface currently is, what it's made from, and how easy it is to access. A small path is obviously a different job to a full driveway and patio combined. Rather than guess at a figure that won't mean much until we've actually seen the job, we'll give you a proper quote after a quick chat or a look at some photos, and that quote is the price you pay. No surprises added on the day.

Questions

FrequentlyAsked Questions

  • Most surfaces in this area benefit from a clean every 1 to 2 years, though shaded, north-facing, or heavily-treed spots can need it sooner. If you're seeing green staining creeping back within a few months of a previous clean, that usually points to a weed and algae treatment being worth adding on.

  • Not if it's done properly. The risk comes from using too much pressure, the wrong nozzle, or standing too close to a delicate surface. We adjust our approach to whatever we're working on, which is exactly why a professional job and a hired pressure washer from a DIY shop tend to give very different results.

  • We use eco-friendly cleaning products wherever possible to help lift algae and grime before pressure washing, rather than relying on pressure alone. These are chosen with pets, plants, and drainage in mind.

  • Often, yes, though some older or deeply set stains need a bit more work than a standard clean. We'll be upfront if a stain is likely to need a specialist stain removal treatment rather than a standard wash. Have a look at our driveway stain removal page for more on that.

  • We offer same-day service where scheduling allows, and we work 7 days a week. Get in touch and we'll give you an honest idea of when we can fit you in.
